Mary Elizabeth Poole Obituary

Lilburn, GA - Mary Poole — beloved daughter, sister, partner, cousin, and friend — passed away in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She was born at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi and spent her life lifting others through her artistry, intellect, and kindness. Mary was a passionate traveler who visited many countries, and experienced many cultures. She loved life.

A world-class musician and gifted clarinetist, Mary graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and earned a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Indiana University Bloomington. Her early fellowships and roles — including the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute at the John F. Kennedy Center and service as Assistant Orchestra Librarian at Indiana — shaped a lifelong devotion to excellence in the arts.

Professionally, Mary made lasting contributions at leading institutions around the world.

At The Juilliard School (2012-2016) she managed more than 250 projects and 21 international tours, designing operational systems later adopted school-wide.

At Google (2016-2022) she supported a global executive team, guiding complex operations and events and earning multiple performance awards.

Mary also contributed to IMG Artists, The Santa Fe Opera, and The Châteauville Foundation, where she worked alongside the late maestro Lorin Maazel. Most recently, she served as Executive Assistant to the CEO at a Bay Area technology startup, bringing her hallmark precision and grace to the world of innovation.

Beyond her career, Mary loved to paint, to cook, and to fill every space with warmth and creativity. She shared a deep, joyful bond with her dog Parker, whom she loved and adored throughout his life; their companionship was a constant source of peace and happiness.

Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Gimmie Lee Poole and Peggy Lynn Poole, and her grandparents Jimmy Lee Eubanks, Anne Elizabeth Eubanks, Garnett William Poole, and Peggy Juanita Poole.

She is survived by her mother Virginia Lee Eubanks Poole, her father William Tracy Poole, her brothers Joseph William Poole and James Hunter Poole, James Hunter Poole's daughter Anna Leigh Poole, and her uncle Will Watt Poole, her loving partner Neil Newcombe, her special friend Dixie Sampson, along with many extended family members, colleagues, and friends who were inspired by her kindness and light.

Visitation will be held at Whiddon Shiver Funeral Home on Friday October the 10th 2025 from 1:00pm -2:00pm with a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm.
