Margie Hendrix Barden Obituary
Conway, Arkansas - Margie Carolyn Hendrix Barden, born March 29, 1937, in Bulloch County, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, after a life defined by service, steadfast faith, entrepreneurial spirit, and deep devotion to her family.
She was the beloved daughter of James Lee Hendrix and Mildred Elizabeth Hagan Hendrix. As the child of a Methodist minister, Margie spent her early years in Bulloch, Screven, Grady, and Bryan counties, experiences that shaped her resilience, adaptability, and compassion. She graduated from Bryan County High School and continued her education at Wesleyan College, where her lifelong commitment to serving others began.
Margie's life's work reflected both purpose and heart. She served with organizations such as Epworth by the Sea, the Girl Scouts of America, and the American Red Cross, always dedicating herself to the well-being of others—especially young people and families. After marrying CPT Regginial Rondal Barden, U.S. Army, she taught at Fort Rucker School and later owned and operated Daleville Florist and The Lemon Tree gift shop in Daleville, Alabama. Following her husband's retirement, they became Burger King franchisees in Thomasville, Georgia, continuing their shared spirit of enterprise and community involvement.
After the untimely passing of her husband, Margie devoted herself to raising her five sons—Rondal, Karl, Werner, Sean, and Charles—with unwavering strength and love. Her influence is reflected in their lives: four pursued service in the United States Army and Air Force, while one followed a creative path in the arts as a stunt performer and choreographer. While raising her family, Margie also served her community through her work with the U.S. Postal Service and the Archbold Medical Center Emergency Department, always offering a helping hand and a compassionate heart.
Her commitment to service extended far beyond her professional life. Margie gave generously of her time and energy, leading Girl and Cub Scouts, helping establish the first ambulance service and medical clinic in Daleville, Alabama, and contributing to fire protection efforts with the Garden Ridge Volunteer Fire Department in Texas. Wherever life took her, her spirit of service extended from Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, to Thomasville, Georgia, and Fort Rucker, Alabama. Everywhere she went, she found ways to serve and strengthen her community. She was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the Pilot Club, Chamber of Commerce boards, Polynesian Sunset Garden Club, officers' wives' clubs, city council, medical and school advisory boards, Special Olympics, Georgia Shriners Hospitals, and the YMCA.
Margie's dedication was widely recognized. She received statewide honors for her support of the Special Olympics, recognition from the Shriners, regional recognition from Burger King in the Atlanta area, and multiple awards from local school systems.
Above all, Margie's legacy is one of faith, service, and family. She cherished her children and took great pride in guiding their lives, instilling in them the values of resilience, compassion, and commitment to others. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her strong spirit, and unwavering faith. Her life touched countless people, family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Regginial R. Barden; her parents, Reverend James L. Hendrix Sr. and Mildred Elizabeth Hagan Hendrix; her sister, Margaret Hendrix; her brother, James L. Hendrix, Jr.; and her brothers-in-law, Marion Hope and Jerry Gerard.
She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Hope and Ruthy Gerard; her brother, John W. Hendrix; her sisters-in-law, Patricia Hendrix and Cherri Hendrix; and her five sons and daughters-in-law: Regginial R. Barden II (Altynai), Karl M. Barden (Melodie), Werner J. Barden (Lisa), Sean K. Barden (Amy), and Charles G. Barden. Her legacy continues through her sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each carrying forward a part of her strength, kindness, and enduring love.
A memorial service to celebrate Margie's life will be held on April 18, 2026, at Brooklet Community Church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Kirk Hagan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Brooklet City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to a local veterans' organization, a school scholarship fund, Special Olympics, or Georgia Shriners Hospitals.
