Jeannette Rapp Cooper (Jeannette) Obituary

Thomasville, GA - Jeannette Rapp Cooper, 82, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her, entered Heaven's gates on July 4th, 2025. Surrounded by family, she passed away peacefully at home in Dublin, Georgia. Jeannette was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Marshall Rapp, Jr. Raised by Christian parents, she attended Peachtree Christian School from a young age. Growing up, she enjoyed playing the violin, swimming, and cheerleading. She was a proud graduate of Northside High School in Atlanta and attended Georgia State University, studying Biology. While working at Emory University, she met her future husband, and the two married and later returned to his hometown of Thomasville, Georgia, to raise their daughters Cheri and Joy.

Jeannette embraced life fully and created a beautiful family. She enjoyed many happy years in Thomasville as a homemaker. A dedicated mother to her girls, she participated in numerous school and community activities. She was a past member of the Thomasville Garden Club and First Baptist Church of Thomasville. She also spent time advocating for MADD. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and traveling excursions, which brought them both laughter and joy.

Always a devoted grandmother, she followed her grandsons across the country while they participated in cross country, football, soccer, and baseball. She was a constant encourager, cheerleader, and faithful supporter of their academic and athletic endeavors. Jeannette was a woman of laughter, quiet wisdom and could often be heard late at night, facetiming her grandsons, sharing life lessons and insight. Paul and William were her pride and joy, and the bond between them was unparalleled. Without a doubt, her love, warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on their lives.

Through the many years, she was blessed by new and old friends. The relationships she developed with her daughter's friends held a special place in her heart. A gentle, generous, and kind spirit, she fostered these relationships, and these lovely girls became her other daughters. Also dear to her were her old friends from the Northside High School Class of 1961. Go Tigers! They shared special friendships and fabulous class reunions. She was described by her classmates as a vessel of kindness and compassion. In her final years, the Dublin community became her home. She treasured new friends, along with her church community, Dublin First Methodist. Beloved by many, her gentle soul and warm demeanor will be treasured by those whose path she crossed. Her life was a testament to resilience and the beauty of the human spirit, and continues through the memories of those who knew her best.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace Rapp, her brother Franklyn John, and her beloved daughter, Joy Cooper.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheri Cooper Kellam (David) of Dublin; grandsons, Paul David Kellam III and William Blackshear Kellam both of Dublin; a devoted sister, Nanette Rapp Taylor; special nephews, Keith and Randy Taylor and their families, and cherished family member Katherine Kellam Neal. A special thank you to family friend and caretaker, Ms. Jacquelyn Thompkins.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia with the Rev. Chip Bodi officiating.
