Mr. Henry Eugene Butler or Gene (as he liked to be called), 81, of Pavo, GA passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Big Bend Hospice/Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Gene was born on April 5, 1943 in Brooks County, GA to the late Edwin Lanier Butler and the late Alice Mitchell Butler.

Gene graduated from Brooks County High School in 1961. He then joined the United States Air Force, serving til 1964 when he was honorably discharged to come back home to help take over the family farm.

Gene married Modene Beaty Butler in 1968, together they kept busy for over 50 years farming and building a family in Brooks County, GA. Mostly a crop farmer, Gene and Modene had livestock over the years, hogs and cows. He loved being on the go, outside, driving down old country roads looking at farmland and stopping along the drive to visit and share a joke or two with friends. Sometimes Gene wore out the seat of his many pickup trucks getting in and out so much long before the truck was even worn out. He always had a big smile on his face.

He was a generous, friendly, kind and laid back man who always provided a good life for his wife and daughters. In addition to farming, Gene was a good businessman. He was one of twelve farmers in 1983 who started BCT Cotton Gin in Quitman, GA; that is still going strong today. He served over 10 years as a board of directors member at Coastal Plains Farmers Co-Op Quitman, GA; over 20 years as a director at Barwick Banking Company Barwick, GA; and was elected to the Brooks County Farm Service Agency County Committee for 3 consecutive terms (9 years), serving as chairman for a number of those years.

Mr. Butler is preceded in death by his wife, Modene Beaty Butler.

He is survived by his daughters, Marcy (Warren) Williford of Hahira, GA and Brandie (Brad) Hester of Newnan, GA; granddaughter, Madeline (Angel) Salome of Mableton, GA; brother. Hugh (Christel) Butler of Pavo, GA; sister, Marty (Rodney) Pohlman of Pavo, GA; sister - in - law, Sandra (Clyde) Isom of Moultrie, GA; brother- in - law, Winston Beaty of Barwick, GA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Barwick Baptist Church fellowship hall in Barwick, GA on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 1-3:00 P M,

A graveside service will follow at 3:00 P M. in Rosewood Cemetery with Rev. Greg Icard officiating.
