Funeral services for Travis W. Island Jr., 19, of Thomasville, will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 1 p.m., at Providence M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Officiating minister will be Presiding Elder Anthony Choice. Active pallbearers will be the Thomasville High School Class of 2017. Mr. Island passed away on May 18, 2017. Born in Lima, Ohio, Island spent eight years in Thomasville. A graduate of Thomasville High School Class of 2017, he was a cadet first lieutenant of the JROTC program. He was a certified nursing assistant at Camilla Garden Nursing Home. Mr. Island was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Melissa Thomas; father, Brian Thomas; Travis Island Sr.; brother, Christopher Thomas; sister, Brianna Thomas; sister, Amiyah Thomas; grandfather, Robert McClellan; paternal grandparents, Arthur Stephanie (Thomas), Susan (Dana) Lucas, Dorothy Parks, Cantry Island Sr. Other survivors are aunts and uncles, Annette and Melvin Ester, Robert and Robin Whiteside, Demond and Ericka Cash, Percy Whiteside, Jean Springer, Willie Whiteside, Douglas Cash, Roberta McClellan, Christopher Thinkill, Tammy Milligan, Denise Hudson; brothers; Christopher Thomas, Stephen Thurmond; sisters, Brianna Thomas, Amiyah Thomas, Keya Thurmond, Aisha Thurmond, Marie Askew; close friends and family, Hudson and Lewis families and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparent, Betty Jo Cash and uncle, James Whiteside. A public viewing will be Monday, noon to 8 p.m., at Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home. The remains will lie instate on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to the funeral hour at the church.
