Teresa's Story

Text size

On April 29, 2017, Teresa Charlene Brock McGalliard passed through the pearly gates of heaven to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Born in Bainbridge, Georgia on May 23, 1945, to the late J.G. and Merline Brock. She was raised in Cairo, Georgia and a graduate of Cairo High School in 1963. On April 24,1964, she married Russell Franklin McGalliard. They had two daughters, Teresa and Tina. On November 11, 1989, she received a heart transplant. She was given only a five percent chance of surviving one year, but miraculously survived 27, making her the longest living heart transplant patient at Emory Hospital. Because of the selfless act of organ donation, she was given time to travel the world, share her passion for cooking and establish her restaurant called, "Simply Delicious" at the Neal House. She saw her daughters graduate, marry, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She loved her dogs, any blooming plant, shopping and "the little red house." Nothing made her happier than being with her family. She always demonstrated an unquestionable, unconditional love. She was loyal and generous to all. She was a devoted wife, extraordinary mother and an amazing Ammie. She was the rock of her family that can never be replaced. Charlene is survived by her husband of 54 years, Russell Franklin McGalliard; daughter, Teresa McGalliard Wilson (Dr. Robert Wilson) of Greenville, South Carolina, daughter, Tina McGalliard Phillips (Tim Phillips); grandchildren: Zack Phillips (M.E. Conner Phillips), Robert Wilson, Jay Wilson, Anna Phillips and Amber Reynolds; great -grandchild: Conner Phillips; a brother, Art Brock; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend who spent many hours supporting and helping her, Doris Vinson. Visitation will be held at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home at noon on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, service in the chapel at 1 p.m., and graveside at Brock Cemetery in Vada, Georgia. Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
