Gwendolyn's Story

Services for Gwendolyn Elaine Moton, of Thomasville, will be Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Bethany Congregational U.C. Church on Lester Street. Rev. James Banks (Pastor) officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Richard Lewis, Bruce Mitchell, Mark Davis, David Rone, Carlton Bryant, Kenneth Baker and Arthur McDonald. Mrs. Moton passed away on September 2, 2017, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born in Thomasville on September 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edison Moton Jr. and Beulah Johnson Moton. Spending all her life in Thomasville, Mrs. Moton retired as an LPN Southwestern State Hospital after 32 years. Mrs. Moton also worked at Camellia Gardens Nursing Home, Archbold Memorial Hospital, and Mu Dear Child Care Center as a teacher assistant. Mrs. Moton graduated from Douglass High School in 1961, Hampton Junior College in Ocala, Florida in 1963 with an associate of arts degree and Walton Vocational Technical School in 1965. She was a member of the Bethany Congregational U.C. Church, Thomasville Noon Lions Club, Trustee Board of the Bethany Congregational U.C. Church, superintendent of Sunday School and the Curiosity Committee. Her hobbies included gardening, shopping, traveling, word search puzzles, and an avid knitter. Survivors include sister, Patricia Graham (Ralph) of Hartford, Connecticut; sister, Beulah Greene of Killeen, Texas; special devoted cousin, Gregory Robinson of Thomasville; 10 nieces and nephews; 23 great nieces and nephews; and special loving family and friends and God children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Edison Moton Jr., three siblings, Juanita, Beverly, and Clarence Moton III. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The remains will lie instate at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour with no viewing after the eulogy.
