Mrs. Edith S. Jolly, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Grandview Memorial Park on Hollis Lakes Road with her son, Rev. Robert Jolly officiating. Born in Ochlocknee, Georgia on November 13, 1939, Mrs. Jolly was a daughter of the late Clayborn and Irene Singletary. In 1956, she was crowned Miss Ochlocknee and participated in the Thomasville, Georgia Rose Parade. She graduated from Reinhart Junior College and the Georgia State College for Women. She began her long career as an elementary school teacher at the Josephine Wells Elementary School near Atlanta, teaching her favorite age, children in the second grade. Later she received her Masters of Education from Clemson, and later did additional study at University of South Carolina. She loved working with children and was particularly devoted to, and exceptionally successful in, teaching children to read. Another of her passions was to be an outstanding homemaker, and to bring order to the life of a husband who was not good in organizing the spaces around him. For this, as well as for her sweet temperament, she will be forever remembered, appreciated and loved. She leaves behind Bob Jolly, her husband of 54 years; three sons, Robert (Kim), Stephen (Lisa) and Michael (Tamara); nine grandchildren, all of whom loved her very much; her sister, Mary Spivey (Chuck); and her brother, Alan Singletary (Theronne). While on this earth for 77 years, since birth her spirit was joined with that of the God of all being. While holding to her principles in a tenacious way, at the same time she had a natural sweet nature that endeared her to her family and to many close friends. From this divine spirit she was prompted to reach out to people, to establish long lasting connections. We, who adored her, note that for all her family and friends, it is significant that this angel passed away on Easter Sunday, the day of her Lord's resurrection. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Jolly's name to the Alzheimer's Association at www.m.alz.org/donate.asp. Condolences may be made at www.greenefuneralhome.net.
