Amos's Story

Services for Amos Lee Jackson of Paterson, New Jersey, formerly of Ochlocknee, Georgia, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Tremaine Alford, pastor, officiating and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wayne Bullock, Michael Ladson, Jeffery Jackson, Jim Bacote and Andrew Jackson. Mr. Jackson died June 29 in Paterson. Born Dec. 3, 1931, in Ochlocknee, he was the of John and Arthie Boone Jackson. On Feb. 23, 1950, he was married to Dorothy Mae Dickens who preceded him in death. He had lived in Paterson for 50 years and retired from Whippany Paper Mill and Atlantic Casting Co. He attended the Ochlocknee School System and was a member of Midway Baptist Church in Ochlocknee and Chief Cornerstone Church in Paterson where he served as a deacon in both churches. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jackson; and his children, Willie and Genease Jackson. Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia (Michael)?Ladson of Somerset, New Jersey, Cheryl (Jim) Bacote of Paterson,?New Jersey, Janice (Allen) Bullock of Paterson, Cheanese Jackson of Paterson; two sons, Andrew (Rhonda) Jackson of Albany and Jeffrey Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-children. He is known as dad, granddad, pear shape, great-gramps and junebug. He is also survived by four sisters, Luvenia Smalls, Annettee Mansfield, Angeline Scott, Vera Thomas and one brother, John Jackson. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories a host of nieces, a special niece, Antilnal, nephews and a host of loving relatives and friends. The visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home. Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home 225-9671
