Funeral services for Mr. Willie Thomas will be Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Family Worship Center, 1760 Hwy 84 West, Cairo. Pastor Johnny Moore, pastor/officiating. He passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Thomas was born November 12, 1927 in Thomasville, to the late Willie Thompson Sr., and Hattie Gilley Thompson. He was married to the late Betty Jo Vandergriff. Mr. Thomas attended public schools in Grady County, retired from the U.S. Army after serving 23 years and 21 years of service with the federal government. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. He is survived by daughter, Gwendolyn V. Willis of Cairo; son, Shelton (Phillis) Thomas of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; sister, Edna Jones of Thomasville; brother, J.L. Thompson of Thomasville; brother, Austell Thompson of Newark, New Jersey; brother, James Thompson of Pompano Beach, Florida; grandson, Christopher Gerard Willis of Midlothian, Virginia; brother-in-law, Herbert (Lillie Ruth) Vandergriff of Cairo; brother-in-law, Leonard Bernard (Teresa) Vandergriff of Washington D.C.; sister-in-law, Deborah Thomas of Cairo; sister-in-law, Mable (Bobby) Donald; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
