Funeral services for William "Decker" Brookens will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Cloud Funeral Home Chapel, 335 1st Avenue N.E.., Cairo, Georgia. The Rev. Alfred L. Johnson will officiate and interment will be held at Cairo City Cemetery, Cairo, Georgia. Decker was born in Waco, Texas on October 29, 1927 to the late Joseph Sydney Brookens Sr., M.S., D.D. and Florence Olivia Brookens nee Cloud. Decker died at home in Springfield, Massachusetts on July 15, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Decker or "Deck", as he was known by many, was the fifth child of seven siblings. Decker's hobby was music and throughout his life he always had a working radio. Survivors include sisters, Emma B. Bailey of Birmingham, Alabama and Alma S. Murray of Springfield, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sydney Brookens Sr., M.S., D.D. and Florence Olivia Brookens; siblings, Joseph S. Brookens Jr., Victor E. Brookens Sr., Paul L. Brookens, Florence Burton, (in-laws) Lenell Bailey, H. Martin Murray, Opal Brookens and Florence Brookens Webb. Decker also leaves a large host of sorrowing nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends, his loss will be felt for years to come. Public viewing will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. Family hour will be Sunday July 23, 2017 from 2 pm until the funeral hour at the chapel.
