Vivian G. Ellis passed away peacefully at home, September 6, 2018, with hospice nurse, sitters, and family present. Born in Ochlocknee, Georgia, Vivian was a member of the 1936 State Basketball Championship Team. In 1941, she married Horace Ellis. Her long work career included being an administrative assistant at Pebble Hill Plantation and then the manager of Farmers and Merchants Bank of Ochlocknee, Georgia. In retirement, she returned to Pebble Hill working in the gift shop and also volunteered at the historic Lapham Patterson house in downtown Thomasville. Vivian was an inspiring and devoted member of the Thomasville Y, working out three times a week, even past her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Ellis, and daughter, Ann Ellis. Survivors include one daughter and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at Whiddon Shiver Funeral Home on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages all who are able to make donations to Hospice of Southwest Georgia. We also express our great appreciation for the expertise, devotion, and loving care provided by mother's team of sitters: Mary, Rutha, Shirley, and Caroline.
