Virginia Peters Hadley Virginia Peters Thompson Hadley, 93 of Thomasville, Georgia passed away peacefully at Southern Pines Living Facility on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. She was born in Thomas County Georgia to the late Rev. John M. Peters and Dolly Hatcher Peters on June 9, 1925. She was one of 10 children all who preceded her in death. They were Elisha Peters, Elijah Peters, Neel Peters, Charles Wesley Peters, John Wesley Peters, Ethel Peters, Victoria Davis, Sadie Ross and Eldora Nichols.
She was educated in the public schools of Thomas County at Douglass High School. She received a B.A. Degree in Education and a Minor in Music at Durham, North Caroline University in Durham, North Carolina. She received a M.A. Degree of Education at FAMU in Tallahassee, Florida.
She joined Clifford Temple C.M.E. Church at an early age and has been a member since up until the time of death. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Member of Senior Choir, President of Stewardess Board #1, Financial Secretary of church for 35 years, and President of Christian Board of Education.
In the community she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, American Beauty League, Civic Garden Club, Block C-Community Club, Aquarius Club and Eastern Star (214).
On November 26, 1957, she was married to Birch Thompson of Jacksonville, Florida. To this union was born one daughter, Victoria Thompson.
She retired from Thomas County School System in 1981 where she was a teacher of History and Social Studies at Boston High (Boston, Georgia), Ochlocknee School (Ochlocknee, Georgia), Magnolia School (Thomasville, Georgia) and Thomas County Central High School (Thomasville, Georgia) for a continuous span of 32 years.
In 1991, she married Rev. John D. Hadley of Buffalo, New York. They were very loving and devoted to each other. During the time they were married they lived in Buffalo, New York, New Britain, Connecticut and Thomasville, Georgia until the time of his death in 2002.
She leaves to cherich her memory her loving daughter Victoria (William)Perry. Two step-daughters: Joanese (Velpo III) Johnson and Cynthia (Tom) Centofanti.
Grandsons: Victor Terrell Perry and William Wesley Perry. Step-Grandchildren: Sharifa Johnson, Jamilla Johnson and Velpo Johnson 1V.
Brother-in-Laws: Jack (Christine)Hadley and Richard (Lauretta )Hadley. Sister-Laws: Naomi ( dec. Jerry) Monroe, Lilly Mae Witherspoon, Dr. Marie (dec. Emmett) Hadley, and Agnes (Rev. Charles) Adams, Estella (dec. Henry) Groover, Delano (dec. Mack) Robinson and Lula (dec. George) Walden.
Nieces and Nephews: Johnnie Mae (dec. Hubert) Ward, Ruth (Murrie) Barnett, Billy (Warren) Peters, Charles (Rebecca) Peters, Rev. Timothy (Effie) White, Rev. Patricia (Rev. Darrell)Barron, Agnes (Fred) Horton and Enoch (Brenda) Peters. Deceased Niecesand Nephews: Howard Peters, Jerome Peters, and Dorothy (Jimmy) Washington. A host of Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Great-Great Nieces and Nephews. A host of other relatives and friends. Caring and loving caretakes: Mrs. Mable Bell, Mrs. Stephanie Kaye Thompson Hinds, Louise Scott, Marie and Jeanine Mitchell. Deceased caretakers: Mrs. Judy Thompson and Annie Rose Safford. My loving and caring Family at Southern Pines Assisted Living of Thomasville, Georgia and Hospice of Southwest Georgia.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Clifford Temple C.M.E. Church 1:00 PM., with burial in Magnolia cemetery.
Public viewing will be 1:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at 11 am until at the funeral home.
