Text size

Funeral services for Vernard Delaney Cone will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Dawson Street Baptist Church. Vernard Cone, born June 13, 1924, was the oldest of 12 children six born to Thomas C. Delaney and Ruby Mosley, her mother, and six born to Thomas C. Delaney and Nancy Pearl Tyson. She was married to Arthur Sintell Cone who preceded her in death on March 20, 1993. Their only child, Annette Cone Quigley, resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her husband, Michael and their two fuzzy pups.
Retiring after more than 30 years, Vernard enjoyed her long career as a Southern Bell telephone operator. Though retired, she continued to be quite the operator! Her pecan pies, her biscuits, and her chicken and dumplings were unrivaled.
Her heartfelt love and interest in others made a difference in the lives of family and friends. She offered loving insight, Godly direction, encouragement, and sassy humor.
On November 15, 2017 at 6:19 PM, Vernard gained heaven and she lost the frailties and frustrations she had enduredÂ… failing eyesight, diminished hearing, and the recent loss of her independence due to dementia.
Though excited and grateful that Vernard has entered Heavens Gates, Annette will miss waving goodbye and seeing her at the front gate. Guests are invited to sign the online register at www.allenfh.com.
