Mrs. Williams, daughter of Mrs. Mary Lee Hunter and the late Mr. Willie James Hunter, was born on April 2, 1957, in Grady County, Georgia and was called home to Heaven behind her father on May 9, 2018.
Mrs. Williams attended Whigham City Public Schools where she graduated in 1976 and then furthered her education at Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, Georgia. She was an educator in the Grady County Schools for many years and excelled in retail sales until her health failed. Verna left a positive effect on every person she encounters. She brought light and life to the room when she entered even when she was not well. Her smile could soften the hardest of hearts.
At an early age, Mrs. Williams confessed her life to Christ and joined Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. H.B. Jeffery. Later, she moved her membership to Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and an ordained deaconess.
She married Deacon Larry A. Williams on November 2, 1985. She was preceded in death by her father, Deacon Willie J. Hunter; and a brother, Bonnie L. Hunter.
She leaves to cherish her memories a husband of 32 years, Deacon Larry A. Williams of the home; three sons, the Rev. Mordecai Hunter (Sarah) of Clinton, North Carolina, Dewayne Hunter (Stacey) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Alton Williams (Latifah) of Cairo; her mother, Mary L. Hunter of Whigham, Georgia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernest and Martha Williams of Cairo; two brothers, Mr. Lonnie Hunter (Barbara) of Albany, Georgia, Mr. Curtis Hunter (Stephanie) of Suwanee, Georgia; three sisters, Mrs. Retha Byrd (Ret. SSG Leon) of North Port, Florida, Dr. Mirrial Moses (Timothy) of Hephzibah, Georgia, Janet Stephens (Ret. Col.
