Suzanne's Story

Suzanne "Sue" M. Dodson, 90, of 220 Park Ave., Thomasville, GA died peacefully in her sleep December 20, 2017. She was born September 13, 1927 in Snyder, NY, the daughter of Donald and Frances (Wright) MacMurray. On December 8, 1951 she married Alvin T. Dodson who predeceased her on November 3, 2011. Sue was raised in Snyder, NY and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and graduated with a B.S. in Science in 1949. She completed her Masters of Science in Education graduating from New York State University in 1966. In 1968 she moved to Florida and taught elementary school for 28 years retiring from Brevard County School System in 1990. Sue loved to read, travel, be with her family, and quietly help others. Her greatest love was her relationship with Christ and her loving, gracious, and gentle spirit was evident to all who knew her. While a resident of Merritt Island, Florida, she was an active member of Word of Life Fellowship and, more recently, New Covenant Church in Thomasville, GA. She is survived by a son and daughter, Steve (Faith) Dodson of Thomasville, GA, and Robin (Steve Smith) Dodson of Haines City, FL, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Teresa) Dodson, Matthew (Tiffany) Dodson, Lydia (Andrew) Steinke, Micah Dodson, Tiffany (Jason) Vickery, Heidi (Chris) Cortner, Michael (Farah) Smith, and Tony Smith, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tim Dodson and Richard Dodson, granddaughter Natalie Dodson, and two brothers, Jim MacMurray and Phillip MacMurray. A memorial service will be held on December 28th at 3:00 p.m. at Beit Shalom Synagogue 1425 East Jackson St, Thomasville, GA. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
