Services for Sernella Williams Mathis, 91, of Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. E.H. Hopkins and the Rev. Henry Webb will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are family members. Mrs. Mathis died Aug. 20 at her residence. Born Nov. 4, 1925, in Whigham, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Abrams Williams and Inar Williams. She was married to Mack Mathis Sr. who preceded her in death in 1975. She attended the Thomasville School System, retired from a baking company and was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Curtis Lee Mathis of Thomasville, Mack Mathis Jr. of Thomasville; daughters, Annette Mathis of Thomasville, Rebecca Davis of Thomasville, Jewel Peters of Thomasville; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Mathis of Thomasville; nephews, James Williams (Brenda) of Tampa, Florida, Johnny Williams of Tampa, Florida; nieces, Martha Williams (Bobby) of Rockford, Illinois, Pat Dawson of Orange County, California, Mary Williams of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Sherry Davis, Brandon Davis, Ronald Davis Jr., Celesta Smith, Robert Lee Mathis, Shameika Peters, Kimberly Peters, Kajuanjula Mathis, Malcolm Banks, Marvin Bush, Alton Luster, Robert Luster Jr., Sernella Shavon Mathis; 40 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Al Fann, Mildred Smith, Tura Hayes, special thanks to Home Health, Southwest Georgia Hospice; and a host of loving, caring friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Grace Luster; grandson, Torance Green; and son-in-law, Ronald Davis Sr. The viewing is from noon to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home and at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral with no viewing after the eulogy.
