Robert's Story

Robert Arnold Singletary (Lt. Col. USAF Retired) passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at home. He was born December 16, 1930 in Coolidge, Georgia to the late Charles and Evie Singletary. Robert joined the USAF and graduated with the pilot training class 54-F. He flew several different aircraft including the B52 accumulating over 6,000 hours of flying time. Robert flew 165 combat missions over Vietnam and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. He also earned several Air Medals and Air Force Commendation Medals. In 1995 he was elected into the Thomasville-Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame. After retiring from the USAF he worked for the US Postal Service. Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Singletary and Warren (Buddy) Singletary, three sisters, Sara Bannister, Duane Powell and Phyllis Murphy. He is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Marilyn, son, Michael of Valdosta, daughters, Beth (Scott) Reeves of Decatur, Georgia, Ann (Tony) Tritt of Douglasville, Georgia, Jill (Andy) Bierbaum of Atlanta, Christi (Marvin) Graber of Garden City, Kansas, nine grandchildren, Alexa, Avery, Madison and Mason Tritt of Douglasville, Georgia, Bryn and Betsy Bierbaum of Atlanta, Georgia, Olivia and William Reeves of Decatur, Georgia and Allison Singletary of Valdosta. A rosary will be said at six p. m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Visitation will follow until eight p. m. The funeral mass will be Saturday, June 3, 2017 at eleven a. m. at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St. John The Evangelist Catholic School, 800 Gornto Rd., Valdosta, GA 31602 or a charity of your choice.
