Mary Marthalene McRae Davis

Events

Mary Marthalene McRae Davis, 93, passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2019 at her home in Thomasville, GA. Born February 11, 1926, in Warm Springs, GA to the late Jimmie Virginia Stephens McRae and Harrison Radford McRae. She lived her childhood and teen years in Quitman and Boston Georgia with her aunt and uncle, Addie and Samuel McRae. Moving to Thomasville in 1944, she attended Joyes Business School and worked at Finney General Hospital. On October 29, 1947, she married Jasper Claud Davis, III, at the First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. She soon moved her letter to the First Baptist Church in Thomasville where she and Jasper remained members for the rest of their lives. They were quite a team! Thomasville was their home, though in the 1970s they found a little spot in paradise for a vacation home on the Ichetucknee River in Florida where they built a river house that would hold their fast growing family! And though Thomasville was Marthalene's home, she loved to travel. Her home is filled with mementos of her many journeys around the corner and around the world. She had the opportunity to explore many places, one highlight being a 30 day tour of the Lost Cities of the World in 1999. Marthalene loved Thomasville and shared her time and her talents volunteering for many of Thomasville's organizations. Of particular interest to her were the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation and the Thomas County History Center (the Historical Society), both of which she was a long time board member and volunteer. The Memorial Service for Marthalene will be Saturday, April 6th at 2:30pm in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Thomasville. Memorial Contributions can be made to the organization of your choice. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Davis - 103 St. Andrews Circle, Thomasville, GA from 5:00pm - 7:00pm Friday evening. Preceded in death by: Husband, Jasper Claud Davis III, Son, Brett Allen Davis, Brothers, Fred McRae of Manchester NH, Harry McRae of Quitman GA, Virgil McRae of St Petersburg FL.
