Mary Athitakis, age 88, of Canton, Ohio passed away December 22, 2017 in Tallahassee, FL. Funeral services will be held at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomasville, GA. with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens the Rev. Fr. Robert J. O'Loughlin officiating. Her mother and father Steve and Christine Margaritakis immigrated from Crete, Greece to the United States in the early 1900's, wed shortly after, and she was the first born August 1, 1929 followed by two brothers. She was a graduate of Timken High School and Kent State University with a degree in accounting. After graduation she went to pursue her career in New York City. She met her husband Emmanuel Athitakis in 1966 in Springfield, MA at a Cretean Convention. Shortly after they returned back to Ohio and wed in 1967 and started a family, son Manso Athitakis, and daughter Christine Athitakis. Together they owned two restaurants, Sparta Steak House and The Four Seasons for sixteen years; then moved to Tallahassee for the children to go to Florida State University. Shortly after they moved they owned and operated Brantly's Seafood restaurant in Thomasville, GA for twenty-two years. She was a member of the Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox church in Tallahassee, FL. She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Emmanuel Athitakis, son Manso Athitakis, and daughter Christine Athitakis.
