Funeral services for Maj. Roy Fred McMillan will be held on the 2nd day of March, 2018 at 11:00 am, Pastor Mitch Conner officiating with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Major McMillan, 86, of Thomasville, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Glenn-Mor Nursing Home. He was born to the late Norman P. McMillan and Thelma Hulsey McMillan on August 29, 1931 in Pavo, GA. He graduated from Pavo High School in 1948, received his pilots license, and served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He graduated from Middle Georgia College with a certificate in Civil Engineering in 1957, then attended Georgia Tech and graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He married Patricia James Sakso, who is the mother of his children. Maj. McMillan served in Vietnam from 1967-1968, where he flew combat helicopters. He also studied fixed wings at Fort Rucker, AL, and helicopters Mineral Wells, TX. Maj. McMillan retired from the United States Army Reserve after twenty-five years. He married his second wife, Laura Cone Wood who was his friend, and later his caregiver. He was a member of Gatlin Creek Baptist Church and loved his Sunday School Class. He also loved attending the Hulsey Family Reunion every September in Clermont, GA. Survivors include Laura Cone Wood; children, Caron Tucker, Michael McMillan, Vance McMillan; a sister, Shirley Segars; stepchildren, Sherri Goldsmith, John Wood, Jeanne Wilcox, Lori Brown; grandchildren Leslie Lancaster, Colby and Alex McMillan, Jennifer Baker, Jesse Reeder, Kyle and Ashley Wilcox, Jenna Coffee, Montana and Mackenzie Brown; and great-granddaughter Katie Belle Coffee.
