Louise's Story

Louise Pittman Dickson (better known as Sissy), 86, of Ponte Vedra Beach passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017. Born in Thomasville, Georgia on Feb. 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Louise Parker Pittman. Sissy graduated from Thomasville High School where she was a cheerleader and subsequently attended Auburn University and the University of Georgia where she pledged Kappa Delta Sorority. Sissy was an avid gardener beginning in her childhood with her beloved Mother as her mentor. She also worked closely for years with the late Ryan Gainey. Her home gardens were on several garden tours for the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, where she volunteered in different capacities and entered many garden/flower competitions. She was a member of Piedmont Garden Club in Atlanta, GA. When she moved to Ponte Vedra, she was a member of The Garden Club of America where she also enjoyed volunteer work. She was a master gardener. She loved sharing her garden with others and had many garden parties. Anyone who walked through Sissy's garden felt privileged to see such a work of art. She also passed her passion on to her daughters and grandchildren. Sissy was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra where she was active in the Herb Garden and Newcomer's Program for many years and volunteered in other ways. She was an avid tennis player and was an "A" player of ALTA. She played at Capital City Club and Piedmont Driving Club while living in Atlanta. Once Sissy and Herb moved to Ponte Vedra, she also joined a tennis team at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club where they were members.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte S. Chastain, Hollie S. Anderson and her husband Scott, Susan S. Lycke and her husband Eric; grandchildren, Charlotte A. Chastain Smout and her husband Cody, J. Carson Chastain, Jr. and his wife Randell, Parker Dickson Anderson, Katherine Louise Lycke; great-grandchildren, Jnana, Waylon, & Rose Smout, Tripp, Luther, and Hawk Chastain; three nieces, two nephews and her best friend from kindergarten, Joanne Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert J. Dickson.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 9:30am in Oaklawn Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am at Christ Episcopal Church 400 San Juan Dr., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
