James Jacobs
Services for James "JJ" Jacobs, 87, of Thomasville are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in the chapel of Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home. The Rev. Mack Luke will officiate and interment follows in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Greg Jacobs, Patrick Jacobs, Larry Meek, Rick Sanders and Palmer Voyles. Mr. Jacobs died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at his residence. Born March 13, 1930 in Sitka, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Dan Jacobs and Missouri Sloan. On May 30, 1950, in Garrett, Kentucky, he married Rosa Lee Jacobs of Thomasville. He served in the United States Army with a tour in Germany after the liberation of Europe in World War II. He was retired, a member of Victory Baptist Church and a Freemason. Survivors include his son, Gregory Jacobs of Thomasville; grandson, Patrick Jacobs of Jupiter, Florida; sister, Anna Rose Tanner of Thomasville; brothers, William Jacobs of Thomasville, Gary Jacobs of Indianapolis, Indiana, Russell Jacobs of Stanville, Kentucky and Thurman Jacobs of Ochlocknee. He was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Jacobs; and a brother, Gayland Jacobs. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home before the service. The family will gather at 1 p.m. at New Growth Baptist Church after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the fund for the caregivers established by the Jacobs family.
