Herbert James Gilliam, 69, passed on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. He was born May 5, 1948 in Thomasville to the late Thelma Louise Lawyer and the late Sidney Gilliam.
Graveside services will be held at Peacefulrest cemetery Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00am.
Herbert who was fondly known as "Mickey", grew up in Thomasville and graduated from Douglass High School ('66) and the University of Georgia. Mickey served two years in the United States Army and is a Vietnam veteran.
Mickey loved to walk and spend time in the park where he could be found reading various books. Mickey joined Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church and knew the Lord as his Savior.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Grandmother Everlena "Lena" Byrd and an aunt Bessie Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory: Stepfather David Lawyer (of the home), brothers Harold E. Hall(Catherine) Cary, NC; Kirk Gilliam (Angie) Fayetteville, NC; a sister Bettye H. Sanford (Johnny) Spring Lake, NC; 11 nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins; and close friend and neighbor, Barbara Jean Springle.
Herbert James "Mickey" Gilliam will truly be missed by his family and friends.
