Mrs. Gloria Dean Atkins, affectionately known as "Leechie" was born November 8, 1943 in Mitchell County, Ga; to the late Ulysees and Dollie B. Anderson. Gloria transitioned from this life on November 3, 2017 at John D. Archbold Hospital, Thomasville, Ga. Gloria married Adolph James (preceded in death), unto this union three daughters were born. Later she married Luster C. "Dump" Atkins on February 1, 1973. This union lasted over forty years until his passing. Gloria leaves her legacy of five daughters; Teresa James, Constance James, Janice (Daniel) Hill, Orangie (Donnie) McCraw, Cynthia Anderson all of Meigs, Ga. Through marriage she is survived by one son, Moddace (Christine) Atkins, Willamena Atkins, Pelham Ga., Valarie (Jerome) Reeves, Albany, Ga., Margo Atkins Pelham Ga. One sister, Sharon Anderson, Deerfield Beach Fla.; one brother in-law, James (Mable) Atkins, Augusta, Ga. Children she helped raise as her own five nieces, Sandra Crimley-Bell (Terry), Aldrena Williams (Bobby), Meigs, Ga., Lynda Edwards, Riverdale, Ga., Mia Davis, Tampa, Fla, Victorene Anderson-Bryant (deceased); one nephew, Harry Dobson Riverdale, Ga.; one goddaughter, Jennifer Almond; a lifelong friend, Florence Louise Jackson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom she loved. A special thank you to family friend Eddie Bell. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Beulah Primitive Baptist Church, 3048 Vine St., Meigs, Ga., Elder Titus Butler, Pastor, Elder James Abraham, officiating. Burial will follow in Meigs Sunset Cemetery. She will be out for public viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour Saturday at the church.
