George's Story

Mr. George Monroe, the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Revels Monroe, was born March 3, 1923 in Thomas County, Georgia. He lived most of his life in Thomasville, Georgia and later moved to Hartford, Connecticut. He accepted Christ and became a member of Rebecca Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He labored for Balfour Lumber Company, Scott Construction and worked in pulpwood while living in Thomasville, Georgia. While living in Hartford, Connecticut, he worked at G. Fox, Sholts Beauty Supply Company and Otis Elevator Company. Mr. George Monroe leaves to cherish his loving memories, a loving and devoted sister, Alberta Hester of Thomasville, Georgia; a brother, Henry (Doris) Monroe of Hartford, Connecticut; a host of devoted nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin Monroe Jr., the Rev. Dembo Monroe Sr., John Monroe, Isadore Monroe, Sisters Viola King, Stella Monroe, Lula Mae Wiggs, Ann Nolen, and Zora Monroe. A special thanks to the staff at Rose City Rehab, Bethany Hospice and Dr. Kimberly Pickens for all your hard work, love and support during the care of Mr. George Monroe. Viewing will be held Friday, August 25th, at Hadley's Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday August 26th, at 11 a.m. at Rebecca Missionary Baptist Church, 970 Hill Road, Thomasville, Georgia. The Rev. Andrew Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Peacful Rest Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 10 a.m, 190 Monroe Road in Thomasville for the processional.
