Services for Denise Bryant Brown, 65, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Aug. 19, 2017, Disciples of Jesus Ministries, 228 Augusta Ave. The Rev. James H. Banks Jr., pastor, Bethany Congregational UCC, Thomasville will officiate. Interment follows at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Thomasville. Pallbearers are Anthony Brown of Macon, Georgia, A. Sidney Bryant of Cairo, Georgia, Rumeal Beckford of Covington, Georgia, Marcus Conyers of Thomasville, Georgia, Steve Ivey of Coolidge, Georgia, and Kenneth Lawyer of Riverdale, Georgia. Honorary pallbearers are members of Bethany Congregational UCC?Board of Elders. Mrs. Brown died Aug. 11 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Born March 7, 1952, in Thomasville, she was the daughter of the late Oris Sr. and Imogene Bryant. She was the first of five children born to these proud parents. She was blessed with characteristics that would be a part of her throughout her life:?compassion, love, energy, unselfishness, honesty and a keen sense of determination. All of these traits sealed her mark on mankind. She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Thomasville City School System and is a 1970 graduate of Thomasville High School. In 1970, she went to Fort Valley State College (now University) in Fort Valley,?Georgia. She graduated with honors from Fort Valley in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in Social Welfare. She retired after 28 years as a claims representative with the Social Security Administration. On Dec. 27, 1975, in Thomasville, she married Steve Brown, the love of her life. To this union one son, Steven Nicholas, and two daughters, Stephanie Michelle and Leah Danielle were born. Denise was a longtime member of Bethany Congregational UCC where she served in several capacities. In addition, she was actively involved in other organizations. She was a member of Church Women United, Rose City Chapter of the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association (life member) and the Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (life member). She served as president of the Thomasville Unit of Church Women United in Georgia and assistant treasurer of Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Two brothers preceded her in death, Oris Jr. and Arthur Bryant. Cherishing her legacy is her devoted husband of 41 years, Steve and their children, Steven, Stephanie and Leah; one brother, Anthony (Rhonda) Bryant of Chelsea, Alabama; a sister, Andrea Bryant of Thomasville; one great-aunt, Rosa Bryant of Boston; one brother-in-law, Ralph Brown of Thomasville; four sisters-in-law, Patricia Ann Morand of Gainesville, Florida, Johnnie Brown of Dixie, Vivian (Larry) Ware of Bainbridge, Thedis Bryant of Huntsville, Alabama; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including lifelong friends, Mary Brown and Imogene Conyers. In lieu of floral arrangements, please make memorial contributions to the Rose City Chapter of the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association, 103 Washington Place, Thomasville, GA 31792 or the Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, 919 Broad St., Thomasville, GA 31792.
