Bernadette's Story

Bernadette Snow Griffin died at her residence Sept 17, 2017. Born November 8, 1915, she was two months shy of attaining her 102nd birthday. A native of Rockland, Maine, Bernadette attended nursing school in Massachusetts and was employed by Colombia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City where she met and married her husband Dr. John Wheeler Griffin Jr. After serving the Navy during World War II, they settled in Bemidji, Minnesota for 35 years. Bernadette moved to Thomasville in 1985 after the death of her husband in St. Augustine. Here, she became a docent at the Historical Museum and was a member of Garden Club and All Saints Church. She is predeceased by her son, John Wheeler Griffin III, a Viet Nam veteran. Her wit and wisdom will be sorely missed by those surviving. They are: her daughter, Connie (Mrs. Bill) Blackburn; grandchildren, Hunter Blackburn, of Pittsboro, North Carolina; Courtney Blackburn (Mrs. Anthony Bartek) of St. Augustine, Florida; and Kelly (Mrs. Adrian) Campbell of Ochlocknee; the family of her son: Midge Griffin, and grandchildren Jason and Minda Griffin, of Denver, Colorado; and six great-grandchildren. A reception will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 23 in the Parish Hall of All Saints Episcopal Church. Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
