Asa Edward  Shepard


Asa Edward Shepard, 86, of Thomasville, passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Funeral Services will be held at Whiddon Shiver Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11:00am with Rev. Mike Allen and Rev. Darrell Owens officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at the funeral home Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Born in Sale City, Georgia on May 23, 1933, to the late G.B. and Nora Clifford Shepard. Edward graduated from Pavo High School, class of 1952, proudly served 2 years in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He continued the family business, Shepard's Bait and Tackle Store, as owner and operator. He always exhibited a strong work ethic even into retirement. Edward's values are rooted in Christianity and is a current member of North Side Baptist Church. Edward enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, gardening, and camping. He loved having his home filled with laughter from family and friends, savoring his cooking. Best known for his venison, fried fish and hush puppies, roasted pecans, boiled peanuts, pancakes, and peanut brittle just to name a few. His fun-loving spirit, generous heart, and selfless attitude represents his passion for lending a helping hand. Edward was truly a good "Shepard." He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Eunice Shepard; only son, Steve Shepard; three grandchilren, Andrew Shepard, Whitni (John) Vasquez, and Michael Shepard; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Leia Vasquez; siblings, Sue Hughes and Charles (Diane) Shepard. He loved and cherished all of his family. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Northside Baptist Church - 1601 Glenwood Dr., Thomasville, GA 31792. Uncle Ed as I called him.....was a great guy and loved the outdoors. I have several great memories spent in Thomasville with him and family when I was visiting my Grandmother next door. He will be missed. Prayers and hugs to everyone.
